LEGO Club – Monthly Challenge
Join Miss Lisa and other LEGO builders on the 3rd Monday of the month, from 4:30 – 5:30 PM, through May (Jan 19, Feb 16, Mar 16, Apr 20, and May 18.) The LEGO Club will offer a new challenge each month. Participants will receive a box of LEGOs and a prompt. Using their imagination, they can build what is suggested or build their own creation. Children ages 7-12. Registration is required.
Motional Intelligence for Seniors
Many of us think our ability to move will steadily worsen as we age. But with self-awareness and some smart choices, movement can be easier than we think! Register to join any or all of three movement awareness classes based on the Feldenkrais Method (tinyurl.com/felden-what) These 3 classes (Oct. 14, Dec. 2, and Feb. 3) from 1 PM – 2 PM, are designed to help you do what you want to do in life with more ease and comfort. “Wired For Opportunity” Free Technology Training
The Wired for Opportunity program is technology training classes provided at no cost to students. The classes will range from basic computer and phone skills to courses like social media and web development and will award the students with a free device, either a Chromebook or Google Pixel Tablet, depending on the class curriculum’s device focus. Each student will be provided a device to use on site for the course’s four class duration. These courses will run from mid-2025 through 2026 and be available at a variety of locations across the county. *** Please note that devices will be awarded one per person per household, while supplies last ***
NEW: TONIES Collection at Mendon Public Library
Thanks to The Friends of Mendon Public Library, our children and their families can enjoy a new collection of screen-free audio players for kids! The Tonies collection includes 3 loanable Tonie boxes (these are the players) that come with headphones and 1 storytelling character. Each character contains a unique story, that plays when placed on a Tonie box. Our new collection also has 41 individual Tonie characters, each with their own unique and educational story. Tonie character stories range in target age up to about 10 years. The characters can be checked out and used on your own Tonie box, or on a library Tonie box.
LOTE (Languages Other Than English) for Kids
“LOTE for Kids!” (LOTE = Languages Other Than English) is another perk for Monroe County Library card holders: we have access to electronic children’s books in many popular languages. They also offer the LOTE4Kids app for your smartphone.

4 New Book Discussion Kits
The Mendon Public Library has 4 new book discussion kits! Each kit contains 7 copies of the book, assembled in a tote bag with 7 discussion guides for that title. The selected books are: Black Cake, by Charmaine Wilkerson; The Dictionary of Lost Words, by Pip Williams; Happiness Falls, by Angie Kim; and North Woods, by Daniel Mason. This addition to our collection is from the United for Libraries and Penguin Random House Grants to U.S. Rural and Small Libraries. The tote bags were donated by The Friends of Mendon Public Library.

Using your Mendon Public Library card, you can now access Kanopy, a free movie streaming service with no ads and no subscriptions. Kanopy offers an expertly curated collection of films we think you will enjoy. We are pleased to bring this streaming service to our community. To use Kanopy, you will need to enter your library card information and create a Kanopy account. Gale Presents: Udemy for Online Learning
Monroe County Library System card holders now have free access to “Gale Presents: Udemy”, an online learning platform that connects patrons to video-based courses taught by leading experts in business, technology, and more. Udemy users can explore thousands of continuously updated on-demand video courses that match their professional goals and personal interests. Teen Corner Open
All teens and tweens are invited to come celebrate the grand opening of our new Teen Corner on Thursday, July 11th at 1:00 PM. We’ll have bubble tea, games, prizes, and more! State Assemblymember Jen Lunsford will help us with a ribbon cutting at 1:30 PM. We’ll also be unveiling our brand new, Manga book section!
12 Book Discussion Kits in Diverse Voices
Mendon Public Library is pleased to announce the arrival of our new DIVERSE VOICES BOOK DISCUSSION KITS. The Rochester Regional Library Council and The Friends & Foundation of Rochester Public Library awarded a grant from the Harold Hacker Fund for the Advancement of Libraries to make the creation of these kits possible. Twelve Diverse Voices Book Discussion Kits were created. Each kit contains seven copies of a particular title and seven copies of a book discussion guide, conveniently circulated in a special tote bag. Titles were selected to represent diverse characters, authors, and topics. The intended audiences for the Diverse Voices kits are both established and new book groups, and anyone who may wish to host a single book discussion for their friends, family, coworkers, etc. The book kits have an extended 8-week loan period.
CPR Training Kits
Thanks to a collaboration from the American Heart Association, UR Medicine, and the Monroe County Library System, you can learn to save lives with CPR from the comfort of your own home or classroom. Hands-Only CPR training kits are available to borrow at Mendon Public Library, and other select Monroe County Libraries. The unit includes a rubber torso, or manikin, to guide proper hand placement as well as compression rate and depth, and instructions. The Hand-Only CPR kits are available to be checked out and returned at any public library in Monroe County, just as with other library materials.
