The Friends of Mendon Public Library are once again holding their spring flower sale fundraiser. And, as convenient as always: pick up is the day before Mother’s Day! Orders can be placed and paid for online (see enclosed link) or using a printed form and pay by cash or check, made payable to “The Friends of MPL”, at the library (view or print the enclosed form.) Financial Workshops: Different Topic Each Week
Teens and Adults: Reserve a seat at any of our four financial workshops with Financial Advisor, Robert Nestrick. Each session stands on its own, so register for one, or any combination of the four. The topics covered are: Monday, March 30: Foundations of Investing; Monday, April 13: Retirement by Design; Monday, April 20: Rules of the Road (Strategy, Risk, Diversify, Quality, Long Term, Realistic Expectations, Balance, Preparing for Unexpected, What You Can Control, Annual Review) ; and Monday, Apri 27: Creating Your Estate Document.
ONLINE – Hydrangeas with Cornell Cooperative Extension
Everyone loves hydrangeas, but so many struggle with growing them. Join this online program on Tuesday, April 14th, from 6:30 – 7:30 PM, to learn about varieties for shade or sun, best growing practices to ensure blooms, and an explanation of proper pruning. This program is online using Zoom; you must register to receive the link. If you have any problems, this event is hosted by the Pittsford Community Library. Cookies, Tea, Art, & Stories: Drop-In, Meet the Artists, & Hear a Story
All ages are encouraged to drop by the Mendon Public Library on Wednesday, April 22nd, from 2 – 3 PM for cookies, tea (hot and cold), stories, and art appreciation. Our artist neighbors from Pinehurst Senior Living will be displaying their work at the library through the month of April. Today, they will be on hand to answer questions about their art and talk about their creative process. For little ones, we will offer a simple creative station and a few story book read alouds about art. Registration not required; just stop in!
Pinehurst Artists on Display
Our library’s gallery wall is currently displaying artwork created by residents from Pinehurst Senior Living Community. The eight artists create in a variety of mediums: basketry, etching, watercolor, acrylic and pencil. Each work is unique and beautiful. This exhibit, on display through the end of April, includes a special program: “Cookies, Tea, Art, & Stories: Drop-In, Meet the Artists, & Hear a Story” will take place on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2 – 3 PM. All ages are encouraged to drop by!

Sweet Bites Poetry Discussion
Poet Kathleen Wakefield has found that experiencing the reading of poetry in community opens it up in new ways for everyone, whether you’ve always loved poetry or had less than positive experiences with it! No prior experience with poetry is necessary. Sweet Bites will be held monthly on Thursdays at 10 – 11:15 AM, at Mendon Public Library. Participants are welcome to come to any or all of the sessions: May 21, and Jun 18. Registration is required.
“Wired For Opportunity” Free Technology Training
The Wired for Opportunity program is technology training classes provided at no cost to students. The classes will range from basic computer and phone skills to courses like social media and web development and will award the students with a free device, either a Chromebook or Google Pixel Tablet, depending on the class curriculum’s device focus. Each student will be provided a device to use on site for the course’s four class duration. These courses will run from mid-2025 through 2026 and be available at a variety of locations across the county. *** Please note that devices will be awarded one per person per household, while supplies last ***

4 New Book Discussion Kits
The Mendon Public Library has 4 new book discussion kits! Each kit contains 7 copies of the book, assembled in a tote bag with 7 discussion guides for that title. The selected books are: Black Cake, by Charmaine Wilkerson; The Dictionary of Lost Words, by Pip Williams; Happiness Falls, by Angie Kim; and North Woods, by Daniel Mason. This addition to our collection is from the United for Libraries and Penguin Random House Grants to U.S. Rural and Small Libraries. The tote bags were donated by The Friends of Mendon Public Library.

12 Book Discussion Kits in Diverse Voices
Mendon Public Library is pleased to announce the arrival of our new DIVERSE VOICES BOOK DISCUSSION KITS. The Rochester Regional Library Council and The Friends & Foundation of Rochester Public Library awarded a grant from the Harold Hacker Fund for the Advancement of Libraries to make the creation of these kits possible. Twelve Diverse Voices Book Discussion Kits were created. Each kit contains seven copies of a particular title and seven copies of a book discussion guide, conveniently circulated in a special tote bag. Titles were selected to represent diverse characters, authors, and topics. The intended audiences for the Diverse Voices kits are both established and new book groups, and anyone who may wish to host a single book discussion for their friends, family, coworkers, etc. The book kits have an extended 8-week loan period.
CPR Training Kits
Thanks to a collaboration from the American Heart Association, UR Medicine, and the Monroe County Library System, you can learn to save lives with CPR from the comfort of your own home or classroom. Hands-Only CPR training kits are available to borrow at Mendon Public Library, and other select Monroe County Libraries. The unit includes a rubber torso, or manikin, to guide proper hand placement as well as compression rate and depth, and instructions. The Hand-Only CPR kits are available to be checked out and returned at any public library in Monroe County, just as with other library materials.
