EquiCenter Experience Especially for Kids & Teens

On Monday, August 3rd, from 1 -3 PM, kids (pre-school – teen) won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn about EquiCenter at 3247 Rush Mendon Road! Participants will get a guided tour of the farm and then rotate to special activities designed with pre-school, elementary, and/or teens in mind. Kindly register each child to save a spot in the tour. Adults will stay with children, but do not need to register. Our thanks to EquiCenter for making this program possible.

Kids through Seniors: Join us at the library on Tuesday, August 4th, from 1:30 – 2:30 PM, for a special musical program with musician M. Geoffrey Clough who will lead us through a WWII Singalong.  Song list includes: Thanks for the Memory, Sentimental Journey, Chattanooga Choo Choo, There I’ve Said It Again, God Bless America and many more.  Along with music, Geoff will share interesting stories, memorabilia, and even funny trivia about the songs of WWII and how they were written.  Sign up to reserve a seat.

Wee Ones Wednesdays through August 5

Bring your preschoolers and early elementary students to the library at 10 AM on Wednesdays, starting July 1st, to enjoy a morning of “Unearthing a Story.” A 30+ minute story and creative time for young ones and their caregivers. We will be outside, if possible; no registration required. Wee Ones Wednesdays are scheduled for:  July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29, and August 5.

Join us at the library on Thursday, August 6th, from 2 – 2:45 PM, for a special party celebrating the conclusion of our Summer Reading Program.  This show is an incredible blend of puppetry, interaction, magic, fossils, and more. Magician Cris Johnson will come dressed as a paleontologist with “Jurassic Journeys” featuring museum-quality fossil replicas, colorful backdrops, music, and more. Also, Kona Ice Truck will be serving up treats following the program thanks to the Kiwanis! Sign up to save your seat.

Dinosaur Hot Glass Demonstration and Make Your Own Clay Dino or Fossil

NEW DATE: School Age Kids: Tuesday, August 11th, at 9 AM, Jen Kuhn of Magpie Glass will bring her glass studio van to share her glass flame working with us. We will work together to design and then help her create a glass dinosaur for the library to keep. Following the dinosaur hot glass demo, each child in attendance will use clay and/or play dough to create a dinosaur or fossil to take home. Registration limited to 25 children.

Thanks to The Friends of Mendon Public Library, our children and their families can enjoy a new collection of screen-free audio players for kids! The Tonies collection includes 3 loanable Tonie boxes (these are the players) that come with headphones and 1 storytelling character. Each character contains a unique story, that plays when placed on a Tonie box. Our new collection also has 41 individual Tonie characters, each with their own unique and educational story. Tonie character stories range in target age up to about 10 years.  The characters can be checked out and used on your own Tonie box, or on a library Tonie box.

Udemy users can explore thousands of continuously updated on-demand video courses that match their professional goals and personal interests. All teens and tweens are invited to come celebrate the grand opening of our new Teen Corner on Thursday, July 11th at 1:00 PM. We’ll have bubble tea, games, prizes, and more! State Assemblymember Jen Lunsford will help us with a ribbon cutting at 1:30 PM. We’ll also be unveiling our brand new, Manga book section!
