Join Miss Kelly each Tuesday morning at 10 AM for Story Time. Preschoolers and their caregivers will read a few stories, sing a few songs, and make new friends. Registration not necessary.
Elementary School Kids: Tuesday, July 28, 1 – 2 PM, we will have a professor from University of Rochester’s Paleoceanography Lab here at the library to talk to us about how scientists are using fossils and marine sediments to investigate changes in ocean circulation, ocean chemistry, and climate during the last 66 million years of Earth’s history (Cenozoic). Learn how their work is done and what they hope to accomplish. We will have some hands-on manipulatives to help us understand this important work. Please register.
Bring your preschoolers and early elementary students to the library at 10 AM on Wednesdays, starting July 1st, to enjoy a morning of “Unearthing a Story.” A 30+ minute story and creative time for young ones and their caregivers. We will be outside, if possible; no registration required. Wee Ones Wednesdays are scheduled for: July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29, and August 5.
Children ages 6-12 are encouraged to sign up ahead of time to reserve your spot at LEGO Club. Each Wednesday, from July 1 to July 29, 11 AM to 11:45 AM, Miss Lisa will prepare a LEGO Club activity for 18 participants. All LEGOs and materials will be supplied. Weather permitting, this program will take place at Rotary Park, 214 N. Main St., Honeoye Falls, NY 14472. Reservations for each session are required. Register here, or call the library at 624-6067.
Kids! Join us at the library on Wednesday, July 29th, from 11 – 11:50 AM, where we will be led by Cornell Cooperative Extension to work as engineers to design and build our own insulated coolers using boxes and a variety of everyday materials. We will test the designs and measure how well the coolers keep temperatures low and compare results. Please register, so enough supplies are available.
Elementary school kids. Join us at the library on Wednesday, July 29, from 1 – 2 PM, to create a cartouche! Work with artist and instructor, Michelle Garlock, to create your very own archeological art. Register to save your spot!
School Age Kids: Sign up to join Deborah Coller at the library on Thursday, July 30th, from 12 – 1 PM, for some dinosaur collage making!
Kids ages 5-10 are encouraged to join us at the library on Thursday, July 30th, from 2 – 3 PM, for a culinary adventure in creating dinosaur snacks! Work together to create an assortment of yummy treats. The Storybook Cook will lead this program, but bring your ideas (and your appetites!) Registration required.
On Monday, August 3rd, from 1 -3 PM, kids (pre-school – teen) won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn about EquiCenter at 3247 Rush Mendon Road! Participants will get a guided tour of the farm and then rotate to special activities designed with pre-school, elementary, and/or teens in mind. Kindly register each child to save a spot in the tour. Adults will stay with children, but do not need to register. Our thanks to EquiCenter for making this program possible.

Thanks to The Friends of Mendon Public Library, our children and their families can enjoy a new collection of screen-free audio players for kids! The Tonies collection includes 3 loanable Tonie boxes (these are the players) that come with headphones and 1 storytelling character. Each character contains a unique story, that plays when placed on a Tonie box. Our new collection also has 41 individual Tonie characters, each with their own unique and educational story. Tonie character stories range in target age up to about 10 years. The characters can be checked out and used on your own Tonie box, or on a library Tonie box.
“LOTE for Kids!” (LOTE = Languages Other Than English) is another perk for Monroe County Library card holders: we have access to electronic children’s books in many popular languages. They also offer the LOTE4Kids app for your smartphone.
