Spring Flower Sale
It’s that time of year again! The Friends of the Mendon Public Library are holding their Spring Flower Sale. The sale includes assorted 11” hanging baskets for $20 and 4″ potted geraniums in a choice of colors for $5. Place your order online via the QR code, or the order link enclosed, or fill out a paper form and return at the library with your payment. Orders and payment need to be placed by Thursday, April 24th. Flowers can be picked up at the Mendon Public Library on Saturday, May 10th, between 9 AM and 12 PM. (Just in time for Mother’s Day!)

Mendon Public Library will be closed on Saturday, April 19th for the Easter holiday weekend. We will re-open on Monday, April 21st at 9 AM. Hope to see you then!
Story Time – Getting to Know Our Neighbors – Stories, Crafts & Traditions of our Muslim Neighbors
School Age Children and Caregivers, join us Thursday, April 17th at 10 AM for a special “Getting to Know our Neighbors Story Time: Stories, Crafts & Traditions of our Muslim Neighbors.” Shaheed Ali, director of Mighty Muslim Mountains, and women from his group will share stories and traditions of Ramadan, the holiday just celebrated by our Muslim Neighbors. Mountain Dulcimer Music for All Ages
Kids, Teens, Adults – Everyone will want to join us on Thursday, April 17th, from 3 – 4 PM, to welcome the Rochester Mountain Dulcimer Players as they perform music and encourage singing along at the Mendon Public Library. Please register to reserve your seat.

Learn About Raised Beds with Cornell Master Gardeners – Online
This online* lecture will take place on Thursday, April 24th, 6 PM – 7 PM, and will focus on the key steps to ensure a successful vegetable garden. It will also cover planting and harvesting techniques, the advantages of raised bed gardening and the top 10 vegetables for home gardening. You will be taught by a Master Gardener from Cornell Cooperative Extension. Registration is required. Participants will be emailed a Zoom link to join the presentation prior to the event. *This program is available thanks to a consortium of MCLS libraries who are sharing resources and connecting communities.
Saturday Story Times Twice A Month
Miss Lori loves to share stories, songs, and activities with preschool kids and their families! Join us every other Saturday, at 10:00 AM, in the Mendon Public Library Jacobs Family Reading Room, for a half hour of fun. Registration is not required; just stop in! The following Saturday Story Times are currently scheduled: April 26, and May 10.
BookPage and Reading Recommendations Available at MPL
Thanks to the Friends of Mendon Public Library, we have a subscription to BookPage in 2025! These publications, printed monthly, will be free for our library patrons to take with them, if they wish.
Teens: Magic The Gathering Game Nights!
Teens and Adults – Join us from 6:00 PM – 7:45 PM in the Mendon Public Library Jacobs Family Reading Room for our game night on Monday, April 28, to play Magic the Gathering! No experience necessary. Simply sign up and show up to enjoy a fun night. Bring your own deck, or beginners can borrow a deck if needed. Kindly sign up to reserve your spot. We will try to limit the session to 16 participants.
Tuesday Story Time
Join Miss Kelly each Tuesday morning at 10 AM for Story Time. Preschoolers and their caregivers will read a few stories, sing a few songs, and make new friends. Registration not necessary.
NEW in 2025 – Kanopy Movie Streaming Service
Using your Mendon Public Library card, you can now access Kanopy, a free movie streaming service with no ads and no subscriptions. Kanopy offers an expertly curated collection of films we think you will enjoy. We are pleased to bring this streaming service to our community. To use Kanopy, you will need to enter your library card information and create a Kanopy account. Gale Presents: Udemy for Online Learning
Monroe County Library System card holders now have free access to “Gale Presents: Udemy”, an online learning platform that connects patrons to video-based courses taught by leading experts in business, technology, and more. Udemy users can explore thousands of continuously updated, on-demand video courses that match their professional goals and personal interests. NY Empire Pass and VIP Passes for 2024-2025
Our 2024-2025 New York State Empire Pass and the Very Important Places (VIP) Passes are available to borrow. The Empire Pass provides discounted admission to participating NY State Parks. (Please read the Empire Pass Guidelines for use.) The VIP Passes are for a variety of cultural sites to obtain special offers at these Very Important Places, thanks to partnerships arranged each year by MCLS.
Teen Corner Open
All teens and tweens are invited to come celebrate the grand opening of our new Teen Corner on Thursday, July 11th at 1:00 PM. We’ll have bubble tea, games, prizes, and more! State Assemblymember Jen Lunsford will help us with a ribbon cutting at 1:30 PM. We’ll also be unveiling our brand new, Manga book section!

“LOTE for Kids!” (LOTE = Languages Other Than English) is another perk for Monroe County Library card holders: we have access to electronic children’s books in many popular languages. They also offer the LOTE4Kids app for your smartphone.
