Program registrations open Wednesday, June 11. On Wednesday, June 25 we have our Opening Party and start tracking reading progress and program attendance. There are weekly prizes and incentives for participation. The Summer Reading Program ends on Friday, August 8 and the final prize drawings will be done by Friday, August 15. ***** GOAL: Read 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week, throughout the summer *****

Playground Prototypes – Engineering Fun!

Kids, Kindergarten – 6th Grade: Put your knowledge to use, from 1 – 2 PM on Tuesday, July 22nd, by building a fun playground and learn some basic building principles of shapes, tension, compression, joints and simple machines. You will get to build a prototype of a playground piece of equipment. We will be outside at the library if weather allows. Register to save your spot.

LEGO Club 5 Wednesdays in July

LEGO Club 5 Wednesdays in July

Join other LEGO builders this summer for 1 or all 5 Wednesdays in July, 2nd-30th, from 11 AM – 11:45 AM at Rotary Park (214 North Main Street, Honeoye Falls.) Each child will receive a box of LEGO bricks and a creative building prompt. Using their imagination, participants can build what is suggested, or build their own creation. Intended for children ages 6-12. A reservation for each session is required. Also, adults are encouraged to stay and assist those that aren’t independent LEGO builders yet, but do not need to register themselves.

Shadow Puppetry Workshop for Elementary and Middle School Students

Elementary and Middle School Students, join us on Wednesday, July 23rd, from 1 – 2 PM for a fun, hands-on shadow puppetry workshop featuring Josh Rice. You will learn about puppetry and get to work with paper and scissors to create your own working puppets. All materials will be supplied. Limited to 30 puppeteers. Sign up to save your seat! Come to the Mendon Public Library on Thursday, July 24th, from 10 – 11 AM to learn more about common birds in the Monroe County area. Practice proper binocular holding skills and learn to identify different bird calls. Learn how to attract birds to your yard and get introduced to bird watching apps. This program is geared towards Grades 1-5. Register to save a seat. This program is offered through Monroe County’s Cornell Cooperative Extension

Friends of MPL Red Tote Bags for Sale

The Friends of the Mendon Public Library are offering their beautiful, red tote bags for sale at the library. These bags are $15/each. They are perfect for toting library books and/or gift giving. Bags are available for purchase at the library with cash, or checks made payable to the “Friends of the Mendon Public Library”, or can be paid online, and picked up at the library by showing your purchase confirmation at the circulation desk.

4 New Book Discussion Kits

4 New Book Discussion Kits

The Mendon Public Library has 4 new book discussion kits! Each kit contains 7 copies of the book, assembled in a tote bag with 7 discussion guides for that title. The selected books are: Black Cake, by Charmaine Wilkerson; The Dictionary of Lost Words, by Pip Williams; Happiness Falls, by Angie Kim; and North Woods, by Daniel Mason. This addition to our collection is from the United for Libraries and Penguin Random House Grants to U.S. Rural and Small Libraries. The tote bags were donated by The Friends of Mendon Public Library.

Using your Mendon Public Library card, you can now access Kanopy, a free movie streaming service with no ads and no subscriptions. Kanopy offers an expertly curated collection of films we think you will enjoy. We are pleased to bring this streaming service to our community. To use Kanopy, you will need to enter your library card information and create a Kanopy account.
