6×6 Small Art Production with Mrs. Zauski
Kids, Teens and Adults, would you like to spend some time creating 6×6 Small Art for inclusion in the Rochester Contemporary Arts Center 6×6 Exhibition? Mrs. Zauski will be here at the library on Saturday, March 16, from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM, to work with up to 20 students to create art that can be submitted by the April 1 deadline for this special exhibit. The Mendon Public Library will provide the 6×6 canvas boards, a variety of acrylic paint colors and brushes with instruction by Mrs. Zauski. Reservations required. Limited to 20 students.
Tuesday Travel Talk Linking Hands for Learning in Nicaragua
Join retired Honeoye Falls-Lima Principal Jeanine Lupisella and her daughter Elise on Tuesday, March 19, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, in the Mendon Public Library Jacobs Family Reading Room, as they share information about their mission trips to Nicaragua. For more than a decade, Jeanine and her husband Rob have led trips to Central America to carry out the mission of Linking Hands for Learning (LHFL). As stated on their website: “Our mission is to improve access to education in impoverished areas throughout the world. We are committed to building schools, promoting literacy, and fostering community relationships that will enable children to learn, grow, and thrive. Our goal is to support communities in their efforts to provide quality education to their children by building schools that are safe, functional, and conducive to learning.” Kindly register for this program. Bees, Butterflies, and Bats
Did you know that almost a third of the food we eat depends on pollination? Join us to learn more on Wednesday, April 3rd, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in the Mendon Public Library Jacobs Family Reading Room. We will learn what pollination is, what creatures help with pollination, and read a book about the honey bee. Children can complete a honeycomb bubble wrap painting or participate in a pollination activity to make a bracelet they can take home. This event is geared towards Pre K – 3rd grade children and registration is required. This is a workshop of Monroe County Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Kids Stay Safe on Streets and Sidewalks
Elementary-aged school kids, join us at the Mendon Public Library on Wednesday, April 3, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM as we learn from the Monroe County Office of Traffic Safety what we all can do to stay safe while riding our bikes and/or walking through town. We’ll watch some videos, do some crafts, and discuss safety. It’ll be fun and informative. Please bring your bike helmet; we’re going to be checking to make sure they fit properly. Blackout Poetry for Kids
Hey Kids – Come join us to celebrate Poetry Month with a special Blackout Poetry event, lead by Joanne Brokaw, a creative arts teacher. On Thursday, April 4th, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in the Mendon Public Library Jacobs Family Reading Room, participants (that can read at a basic level) will be taking a page from a book or magazine, picking a few words that you like, and then blacking out the rest to make a lovely poem. Author & Book: Tips & Tricks on Passing the NY State Road Test
Passing the NYS Driving Test can be challenging! Johnny Scott Jr has taught all things driving since 1997 to more than 30,000 students and is the author of two books on the subject. On Wednesday, March 27th, 6:30 PM – 7:45 PM, in the Mendon Public Library Jacobs Family Reading Room, he will present the up-to-date laws, rules, and expectations for passing a road test which is even a good refresher for experienced drivers. His newest book, Drive Alive II, is an easy-to-read resource certain to help put you at ease prior to testing, will be available for purchase, but if you are one of the first 5 people to register, Johnny will give you a copy for FREE!! INTRODUCING: 12 “Diverse Voices” Book Discussion Kits
Mendon Public Library is pleased to announce the arrival of our new DIVERSE VOICES BOOK DISCUSSION KITS. The Rochester Regional Library Council and The Friends & Foundation of Rochester Public Library awarded a grant from the Harold Hacker Fund for the Advancement of Libraries to make the creation of these kits possible. Twelve Diverse Voices Book Discussion Kits were created. Each kit contains seven copies of a particular title and seven copies of a book discussion guide, conveniently circulated in a special tote bag. Titles were selected to represent diverse characters, authors, and topics. The intended audiences for the Diverse Voices kits are both established and new book groups, and anyone who may wish to host a single book discussion for their friends, family, coworkers, etc. The book kits have an extended 8-week loan period.
CPR Training Kits
Thanks to a collaboration from the American Heart Association, UR Medicine, and the Monroe County Library System, you can learn to save lives with CPR from the comfort of your own home or classroom. Hands-Only CPR training kits are available to borrow at Mendon Public Library, and other select Monroe County Libraries. The unit includes a rubber torso, or manikin, to guide proper hand placement as well as compression rate and depth, and instructions. The Hand-Only CPR kits are available to be checked out and returned at any public library in Monroe County, just as with other library materials.
