Fireside Science Chats with Professor Mark

Recent News, Events, Adult Programs

Adults, you are invited to participate in an informal monthly reading club to discuss science topics from current and historical news. Retired RIT Professor Mark Fairchild will facilitate the discussions once a month on a Wednesday from 6:30 – 7:30 PM at the Mendon Public Library. Participants are provided a few links to articles on the topics for that month, and are asked to read at least one of them prior to the meeting. Registration for each session is required, and the group is limited to 10 to facilitate inclusive discussion. Participants can sign up for each session individually (no commitment to attend multiple sessions). Follow the registration link to see the scheduled dates and each month’s topic with the suggested reading.

Discussion will be free-flowing and open to all points of view. Mark will facilitate the discussion and attempt to clarify any scientific points that come up, but he will not promote any particular viewpoint other than keeping a focus on fact-based, analytical, and skeptical discussion. All should come with an open mind and an expectation to expand their horizons. Mark will have topics ready to go each month, but the goal is for participants to suggest and decide topics for upcoming sessions.
