Katie is the newest Trustee on the Board, having been selected in March of 2023 to fill a seat that was unexpectedly vacated. She teaches English as a New Language where she helps students from around the world learn to communicate in English. With her teaching skills, she says:
“I hope to bring a knowledge of the needs and interests of children and education.”
Katie has organized other events in the community and has been on the budget advisory committee for the board of education several times.
She and her family have been active users of the library:
“The library has been a place of growth, inquiry and fun for us since we moved here in 2006. Our children know every inch of the library and always feel welcomed by the knowledgeable and warm staff. I have also spent time in many other places and have seen the difference the presence of a library can make for a town. Our Mendon Public Library serves as both a safe haven to recharge and a place to grow.”
Describing the Mendon Public Library, she says:
“When we first moved here the library was just the tiny building on Monroe Street and the books were in the basement! We were thrilled when the campaign began to build the new library. This new library is a beautiful example of architecture that reflects both the historical nature of the town while meeting all the modern needs of a library these days. I love the children’s book section. I am always drawn in by the art and prose delivered with such simplicity. Also, the comfy chairs!!!”
She and her husband, Andy, moved to the village of Honeoye Falls in 2006 shortly after he began teaching at the high school. They live in an old farm house, built in the early 1800’s. They have two daughters, Beatrice (10) and E.C. (13), who love this village, the schools and the people.
