We have an awesome facility that has taken years of hard work and dedication from our community to bring to fruition; we're giving ourselves a high five and a pat on the back. So, what comes next?
Let's implement some improvements to the library in order to take our awesome facility to the next level! Here are some suggestions we've received from the community...
develop reading and play spaces in the library
expand our collection of books and movies
add innovative patron technology
Enhancements to the library, such as those listed above, are not covered by property taxes or library fees, so the Friends of the Mendon Public Library, volunteers from our community, need to raise $25,000 to fund these.
Imagine this: if just 1,000 people were to give $25 each in 2017, we would reach our goal easily!
Let's make it happen!
You can show your support of your library with a suggested donation of $25, $55, or any other "High 5!" amount ending in 5 that you wish. If you should choose to give $105 or more, you can receive a complimentary one-year subscription/renewal to Mendon's official newspaper, The Sentinel.
You may donate online; with a donation of $105 or more, please indicate in the "Comments" field whether or not you would like to receive a one-year subscription/renewal to The Sentinel.
Donate by Check
You can also donate by check, made out to "Friends of Mendon Public Library", and mailed to the Mendon Public Library, 22 North Main Street, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472. With a donation of $105 or more, please include a note indicating whether or not you would like to receive a one-year subscription/renewal to The Sentinel. You may also bring your check to the library in person. In order to receive your tax break for 2017, please have your check at the library by December 29.
Donate by Cash
Finally, to donate in cash, stop in at the library at any time to fill out a brief donation form to submit with your gift!
Results from a survey the Mendon Public Library conducted in 2016 indicate that more than 1,000 respondents would like to see a design-improved library space, a larger collection, and innovative patron technology. These kinds of suggestions fall under the umbrella of "libray enhancements".
Library Income Coverage
Public funds (e.g. property taxes, fines & fees, state aid) keep the library open. Private funds (e.g. money raised by the Friends of the Mendon Public Library, grants) improve the library.
Why Another Campaign?
Every year, the Friends of the MPL raises funds for library enhancements by holding book sales, special fundraising events, and running campaigns like the "High 5!" Campaign. Donations of any amount ending in "5" are welcome for this year's campaign to raise $25,000 in order to develop reading and play spaces, gain access to greater patron technology, and supplement the library collection.
